Here’s a brand new one-page comic for your reading pleasure.
If you’re reading this on a small screen, you might want to check out the panel-by-panel slideshow version on Instagram.
This is probably part of a new project I’m working on. I’m not ready to talk about it yet but many of you will see the reference to Winsor McCay’s art and his strip, Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend. Many of you will also recognize that this strip is a riff on the famous Taoist story by Zhuangzi. So that will give you some idea of the general themes of this project.
I’m planning to share new pages as I finish them, without committing to using them for any final work. That way I can give you a glimpse of what I’m up to while giving me motivation to finish and share pages and, who knows, maybe I’ll reach a point where it all starts to gel into a book or at least a short story.
And if you want to read more comics of mine while you wait, remember that my collection of constrained comics, Six Treasures of the Spiral: Comics Formed Under Pressure, is now officially in stores!!
Publishers Weekly just gave it a starred review, calling it “an instant classic.” (Read the whole review here.)
My publisher, Uncivilized Books, is having a big holiday sale which ends on December 12 so be sure to check out their whole catalog, there’s a lot of great stuff.
